Ann Geise - Biography

Ann's interest in art and nature began in childhood. She grew up in the outer suburbs of Cincinnati where there were plenty of woods, creeks and fields to roam. Here began a deep connection with the outdoors. Drawing came naturally, and nature has since provided the inspiration for Ann`s art.
A lifelong interest in natural history and the outdoors, combined with a B.S. in Biology from Northern Kentucky University, contribute to the accuracy and realism of Ann`s drawings and paintings. "I try to capture the subtle but beautiful details found in nature. I hope my art helps people become more aware of this incredible world we live in. People are more likely to protect what they value and feel connected to." Ann worked as artist for Cincinnati Nature Center in Milford, Ohio from 1989-2008. She designed and illustrated the center`s publications and interpretive exhibits. Ann created detailed watercolor and pen & ink illustrations of plants, birds and animals.
Besides her work for Cincinnati Nature Center, Ann created artwork for other organizations including Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, Ohio Biological Survey and others. Ann was one of eleven artists chosen to illustrate "A Guide to the Birds of the Philippines." Her painting of a Philippine Eagle appears on the book cover. Presently Ann`s focus is painting landscapes and wildlife in oils, in a style that combines realism with a painterly quality. Capturing the natural light and mood in a landscape, or the life and spirit of a subject is essential.
