| The students who attend the Montana Art Experience for teens is a group of artists just starting their journey in art. The week is designed to have a far reaching effect on the student's fututre with art being part of it in any form. The effects of this workshop is years of impact and reflection on the week's work. One of our past students sums up the impact of the art workshop well and shares his thoughts with you. From an art perspective I guess the long term impact has been knowing myself better. The workshop affirmed for me that I am an artist. I often look back on the workshop as the point in my life where I found myself. It was the first time in my life where I was surrounded by professional artists and by peers who want to learn art. I felt completly at home with artists. Knowing who and what you are gives you confidence in your work. The workshop gave me the answer to who and what I am which put me ahead in school and in my work. The chance to learn the color wheel and the atmospheric color chart and then step outside and see it for yourself in the surroundings was invaluable. They don't teach the craft of painting in college. Painting is a creative process, but only to a point, then you have to rely on a set of learned skills. There are many aspects of painting, which can be learned. Things like lighting, key, value, color and composition. Learning these things at the workshop put me way ahead of the curve even at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Even to this day, I refer to the notes I took at the workshop when I am starting a new painting. The workshop helped me see that I am an artist. It made me realize that the hunger I have to create is what makes me an artist, and that with practice, and the right tools and mindset I could become a better artist. This is the mindset I still have. I am very confident in the strength of my work and I know my best work is still to come. This is what keeps me painting, knowing that each piece I complete is a lesson learned for the next piece. Creating art is a never ending learning experience, and teaching art even more so. There are many valuable aspects to the workshop. It is hard to name just one. One that comes to mind that has helped me in my own work and in the classes I teach is learning plein aire painting. It has influenced my studio work more than any other skill. Learning to paint outside from professional artists at a young age was excellent. Plein aire painting taught me to see for the first time. Now, many years after that experience, I am teaching others those same lessons. I don't think there is any better way to learn how to paint. Learning from professional artists was incredible. To get to see them paint or sculpt was like getting to see a magic show from back stage. With the secrets revealed, the dream of someday being that good seemed more attainable. The thing that stands out is the people. The positive creative energy that was shared by the instructors is what stands out to me. Nowhere else have I experienced such a force. | Color Theory |
Montana Art Workshops is taking a hiatus for it's summer workshop in 2012 for the Eureka location. Wanda has written her "The Workshop Art Expereince" book and it will be used in the new workshop taking place in Wisconsin in 2012.This workshop designed especially for aspiring teen artists.
Starting this summer of 2012 we will be expanding to other locations in the US. This will be on a limited basis for the time being. The teen program will be expanding in 2012, most likely to Wisconsin and Arizona.

| Group Studio |
The beginning part of the week will prepare the student for solo work for later in the week. The first part of the week will cover color, form and composition. We will have sculpture as well as pastel in the first of part of the week. The student workshop will work in various locations around Eureka and will be based out of The Creative Arts Center in downtown Eureka.
This opportunity is a unique experience for the art student. The SKB Foundation has been working toward including the student artists into their program for the past 2 years. It is very important to the SKB Foundation to make art instruction available to teens. We are very pleased to bring this opportunity to high school art students. The SKB foundation is making this opportunity available to 18 selected students.

Art strudents will be given the rare opportunity to work with professional artists. Students will also be given time for a group discussion on portfolios, careers, and having a professional structure to their artwork. The students gain confidence in their work and abilities from the week long adventure.

We will have 2 instructors for you to work with, Wanda Mumm and Terry Stanley for the week.
The students will be responsible for paying the balance due after the SKB Scholarship and will also need to arrange for transportation to the Eureka, Montana location.

Some Art materilas will be available for students as part of their tuition. Drawing and painting supplies will need to be brought to the workshop by each student.
